Guided meditations

There’s no shortage of guided meditation out there – on websites, YouTube channels, Spotify, and a long list of apps. And much of it is genuinely well produced – clean audio, professional voice work, polished apps.

But well produced isn’t the same as well guided. Pacing that’s too rushed or too slow, a voice performing calm rather than sounding calm, sessions padded out to justify a subscription – production quality and guidance quality don’t always travel together.

Also, the overwhelming majority of it is recorded in an American accent, which is a real barrier for a lot of UK listeners.

Which is why I decided to harness the power of Claude and see if I could create some of my own. I’d be really grateful for any feedback.

What’s coming

Seven guided meditations in total. Recording and editing each one takes time, so they’re going up one at a time, starting with the Short Body Scan.

  1. Short Body Scan – a quick, no-frills check-in through the body, useful when you only have a few minutes.
  2. Breathing Meditation – breath awareness on its own, with an optional counting technique to help attention settle.
  3. Meditation for Working with Difficulties – for sitting with something that's genuinely bothering you, rather than trying to meditate it away.
  4. Loving Kindness Meditation – the traditional progression from yourself outward, including an optional, skippable step for someone you find difficult.
  5. Breath, Body and Sound – a longer practice widening from breath, to body, to the sounds around you.
  6. Body Scan for Sleep – slower and heavier by design, meant to be listened to already in bed, with no instruction to open your eyes at the end.
  7. Complete Meditation Instructions – a full walk-through covering posture, breath, body, thoughts and sound, explaining the reasoning as it goes rather than just issuing instructions.

Where it fits

New to this entirely? Start with the Short Body Scan or the Breathing Meditation – both are brief enough to try without committing much time, and either gives a fair sense of whether this kind of practice suits you.

Already familiar with meditation, but looking for something in your own accent? The Complete Instructions or the Breath, Body and Sound piece give you more to work with.
